Sarah is originally from Downers Grove, Illinois, and is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University. She currently works in Washington, D.C., at a job which takes her all over the world. She has recently become a first-time homeowner, and is sharing her new pad in Alexandria, VA with her jet-black, floppy-eared bunny, Simon.
Sarah and I met on our first day at work during an intern orientation seminar at the U.S. State Department in September 2000. We struck up conversation about sororities, fraternities, and hometowns and became fast friends – and daily lunch buddies. We shared lots of laughs in the cafeteria about hanging wires (and making Sarah laugh so hard she turned red); and in crowded elevators as we unwittingly told embarrassing stories. I was awed by Sarah's courage to walk right up to then-Secretary of State Madeline Albright and introduce herself. Through it all, we formed a friendship that would endure frozen evenings ice skating in the Statue Garden; bad dates and even worse roommates; the world's cutest bunny; the world's gassiest dog; lots of time on the Metro; at Pentagon City Mall; and many nights dishing about it all over S'moreos at Cosi/XandO on opposite ends of DuPont Circle (and plenty of time on our cell phones coordinating which of us had accidentally shown up at the wrong Cosi!). Sarah and I have alternately saved each other's sanity on more than one occasion, and my life is so much richer – and funnier – for having her in it.
