(David & Lynette)

Lynette and David were both born in Lorain, Ohio, but didn't meet until their late teens when both were living in California. When Dave was in the Navy and his ship was based in San Diego, Dave would visit his sister, Carole, in Santa Ana on weekends.  Although Lynette's and Carole's (and therefore Dave's) families had known each other for years (Lynette used to babysit Carole's children), Lynette had not met Dave until 1962, at Carole's house.

The funny thing is, Lynette and Dave never actually dated before they were married; they'd always spent their time together in groups of friends and family.  They were visiting family one night, sitting on the sofa and watching TV, when all of a sudden, Dave turned to Lynette and asked, "Will you marry me?"  She said yes, and they started planning a weding right away, as Dave had orders to the Philippines.  A little over a month later, the two were married, on December 8th, 1963 (that being the day after Pearl Harbor Day, they always remember their anniversary as "One disaster after another!").

Nine months later, their oldest son, David, was born in the Philippines (Lynette had moved there when she was seven months pregnant).  They lived there for three years, and then got orders to Groton/New London, CT, where their second child, Glenn, was born (yet again, Lynette was carrying a little passenger on the flight!).  From there, Dave attended various naval schools in California, while Lynette and the boys stayed in Gargen Grove, CA.  In October 1968, Dave deployed to Vietnam, returning in October 1969 (he'd been allowed one R&R visit with his family in Hawaii in between).

After he returned from Vietnam, he had orders to the USS Gompers (a destroyer).  He deployed again in January 1970, and his six-month deployment naturally became a nine-month cruise; he made it back to California just barely in time for the birth of their third son -- the Groom -- in October 1970 (thank God for those R&R visits!).

From San Diego, the family moved to Great Lakes, Illinois in 1972, and were re-assigned to Pensacola, Florida in 1973, where they remain to this day.  While Dave later had orders to Norfolk, Virginia, aboard the USS Spear, Lynette and the boys stayed in Pensacola.

In December 1977, Dave retired from the Navy as a Master Chief Torpedoman (TMCM, an E-9 in the Navy).  He later worked as a corrections officer, then as a Sheriff's Deputy, and soon became the chief Lieutenant at the Escambia County Road Prison; he retired from the Sheriff's Department in 1994.

Lynette has been a cosmetologist since 1979 (the 2nd time), including at Azalea Trace Nursing Home; she later owned her own salon, the Regency Styling Salon, in Pensacola.  In 1991, she also worked as the Regional Kitchen & Bath Coordinator for the Home Improvement Department of Sears.  In 1993, she went to work at Sears HomeLife.  She has always been active in volunteering, including as President of the Navy Wives Club; as the Gompers Family Liaison (for the families of those deployed on the USS Gompers) to the Chaplain and Commanding Officer; working at Hospice; as a tester and counselor at the Escambia County AIDS Service & Education Center; and in various nursing homes.

Dave & Lynette love traveling on their Goldwing bike, and belong to the Goldwing Riders Association, as well as the Blue Knights.

When Lynette cooks, she cooks for a battalion, even if only two people are coming for dinner; for his part, Dave has perfected use of the phrase, "Yes, dear."
